Marikina, the city known for shoes and fuchsia color. Among 3 siblings, I had the most memories in our hometown. My bestfriends and I grew up here, I spent my glorious elem and HS days in St. Scho Marikina (oo meron talagang St scho sa marikina) and I witnessed how the marikina river and the whole city was revived when Bayani Fernando (now running for Philippine President) became Mayor.
I basically know that the city, on an aerial map view looks like a horizontal letter Y, that Kapitan Moy started the shoe business during the Japanese Era on underground rooms of resident houses, and most of all I am very much proud to say that Marikina is one of the cities in Manila that has better discipline and ordinances than other cities of the region. (*siyempre biased ako.hehe)
But what interests me since I started working and now able to provide myself with the luxury of time and capability to spend is the emerging trend of food businesses here. And I am talking not just the ordinary food carts but “indie” restaurants that provide good food and ambiance.
On http://www.munchpunch.com/restaurants they provided a list of Marikina “Restaurants” and fastfoods:
The usual mainstream Jollibee, Mc Donalds, Greenwich, Chowking, Pizza Hut, Yellowcab, Goldilocks, Red Ribbon and Shakeys are listed but I am sure most people have tried these fastfoods already, *hello mass production and commercialism*
So I am listing down the places I have tried with friends and establishments I want to visit for my next scheduled food trip.

I am proud to be a Marikenya.
(lalo na at masarap kumain dito )
Its not just the image we portray as the “Pink City” but more than this, its how residents like me enjoy the interesting and simple life here. The comfort of the familiar crowd and the assurance that yes, the good things in life are just around the neighborhood.
